घरों के अहाते में बिछे पत्थर सज़ा देने के काम आते थे

घर के अहाते में पत्थर बिछे दिख रहे हैं ? गांव में बावरे बंजारे होमस्टे के होस्ट बाबा चेतराम कैथ बताते हैं कि किसी जमाने में ये पत्थर मुजरिमों को सज़ा देने के काम आते थे। मतलब इन भारी पत्थरों को दोषी के सर पर रखकर उसे खड़ा कर दिया जाता था। तब तक जब तक के लिए सजा मुकर्रर होती थी। माने मृत्युदंड भी इन्हीं पत्थरों के बोझ के जरिए दिया जाता था।

और इस घर के आगे ये पेड़ देख रहे हैं – पांडवों का लगाया हुआ है। ऐसा गांव वाले बताते हैं। पांडवों ने अपने अज्ञातवास के दौरान इस पेड़ को लगाया था, कुछ 35-36 साल पहले ये पेड़ बिजली गिरने से ध्वस्त हो गया था। आज देखिए, कैसे इतिहास के सरोकारों को ज़िंदा किए बैठा है।

Baga Sarahan is a historic meadow located in the Sarahan Village of Kullu Nirmand Tehsil in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh. Diyaugi is a small village that would call for your attention while you go up towards the meadow of Baga Sarahan. The village has as many as 120 people. There is a temple with a tree that was planted by the Pandavas when they stayed here. The tree is said to have been demolished several times in the course of its life and has resurrected itself as many times. Some century old houses in and around the village reek of intense history and culture that has been so well preserved here.

This village and the meadow of Sarahan falls into the Seraj region of Himalaya. The word “Seraj” (सिराज) in Urdu means the Sun or a plume of Light. Basically, a Lamp. Seraj is a territorial region constituting the Outer and Inner Seraj in the Kullu District. The passes of Jalori and Bashleu separate these regions, even though the locals are related on both sides.

Baga Sarahan has got its main road leading right into the meadow. It is well connected however there are simpler and fewer public transport options. From Shimla – drive to Rampur (130kms), take the Nirmand-Bagipul route to a village called Baga Sarahan. Baga Sarahan is around 50 km from Rampur Bushahr. Diyaugi Village is just a kilometer before you reach the meadow.

One can also trek from Bathad to Baga Sarahan. In Inner Seraj, Bashleu Pass (3200m) is a comfortable walk of around 12-15 km to reach the majestic vale of Baga Sarahan in the Outer Seraj. The trek lies in the eco-zone of Great Himalayan National Park. From Baga Sarahan Meadow, one can hike up this village, road to which slips down left from the main road.

Best Time To Visit Baga Sarahan

Baga Sarahan has a typical Kulluvi Climate. The summers are warm with temperatures upto 25 degrees during the day. However the nights are comparatively coller and can go down up to 6-7 degrees. Winters get snow. Temperatures can dip to sub zero degrees. Monsoons receive ample rainfall.
Baga Sarahan can be visited anytime round the year. We recommend the monsoon months to be the best time to visit Baga Sarahan.
